I think there was a shift in sentiment . I remember a Workhouse near here.

It used to take tramps in overnight. Also the young homeless.

Tramps had to deposit their clothes at the entrance and don a nightshirt.

The clothes were then placed in the oven near the two iron gates,

The tramps taking possession in the morning all bugs and fleas nobbled.

I remember my Father saying he used to swap his bacon sandwich

with one of the workhouse boys at school break.

Of course the ground has all been turned into houses now.

Re: Sister Sea

Perhaps the points you have so thoughtfully raised, the same must have been in Wordsworth’s. But in the face of an insensitive government, this minimum at least as a leverage to the beggars and the poor lot of people would have been quite appropriate. And, who knows to what extent he was successful?

Re: Yes, the cruelest thing to do, you’re right, Kabu mam.

When you see in others yourself, liberation and the vision of the higher sphere of living and loving materialize resulting in one being free from bondage.

Re: Sherri G

The empathy is missing in most, sensitivity is only at a premium, kindness and concern for the destitute is evaporating and self - aggrandizement is the only mantra.

This is quite a thought-provoking post, brother Aba. Do we legislate an individual’s fate? Is there a moral compass to consider? One beggar, harmless to all, free to live and to die as he chooses, is one side of the coin. But would it be morally right to let that man freeze to death in the snow because he is doing as he pleases? This topic is one where so many disciplines cone into play and solving the issues of the unhoused (or the “beggars”) may be different. We can help this beggar. We need not change him. But we may assist him so that he may choose to find a way to live in the best of both of his worlds, the free and the constrained. Loved this. 🌹❌⭕️🙏🏻😁

Love your neighbor wherever they may reside. Take the plank out of your own eye before you remove the splinter from your neighbors. and etc. At this late day in this old man's life, putting him into a poor house would be the cruelest thing one can do.

Good afternoon

We could use this inspiration today if people would just take the time to understand it. Red heart
