I had wasps always in Canada and hated their nests. I got rid of them eventually by having a fire in the winter in a drum. The wasps are in a winter stupor and I was able to collect them [gloved and hat with net etc] just a couple buzzed sleepily around me. I could run to the fire and drop them in. They didn't appear to feel a thing.

I just fill a plastic net with dry grass or straw. Good luck, I don't like the thought of lightening.

I've been thinking of a fake wasp nest, too. They seem to like the corners
and upper reaches of my front porch, and discourage the gatherings of family and our "remember when" conversations. On the other hand, they're citizens of earth, valuable pollinators and unless humans get agitated and try to swat them, most of the time they stick to their own business.
