Re: It happened quite regularly back in that time frame.

Mining is some of the hardest manual labor that I have ever seen. They had terrible working conditions, health issues, and very little pay. It's hard to believe that age had no bearing whatsoever when it came to the long days.

Terrible actually. Children being worked almost to death in such a dangerous environment. no schooling of course, no time for play or sports. no childhood ...
