No television was allowed in our place until well after I left school. Big Sis and I would play the Piano in the evenings until some serial we listened to came on the radio or the top 40 [songs on the hit parade}

I was that generation, except for not even having a television. My Dad always said we would not do anything else if we had a tv so he never allowed one until the oldest five of us were gone from home. My two youngest sister had one to watch.
