Bread is a great filler for a bunch of kids with hungry bellies.

I can remember a time when bread was rationed and hard to get.  My dad would take us to a bakery where only one loaf was allowed per person.  He would give us each enough money for a loaf of bread and we would stand in a long line and end up with five loaves to take home....Mom, Dad and three kids.  But we also had three more little ones to feed that were too small to get the bread so it went fast.

we didn't get sliced bread in country South Australia until well into the 1950's

Good Afternoon

Sherri, I enjoyed reading this post.  I learned something new today.  I had no idea this happened during the war.  My family loves bread.

Power to the people. I wonder if the government officials who came up with it really thought it would work or were just trying to look like they were doing something.
