The men from each of the colonies who held a seat in the Continental Congress could have been elected, but that needed to be addressed before the ratification of the Constitution. Abigail was decidedly a woman before her time. Her voice would have been ignored or sileneced during that time in history, so we will never know the true reason as to why she objected Washington so strongly.

Maybe she is upset because Washington was technically not the first president. There were 13 or 14 depending on who you read before him.

Interesting how she was offended by it. One could argue, I suppose, that both Lincoln and Washington deserve their own days.
