Mother kept laying hens for the farm always and she sold the extra dozen or so each week. When one of her hens became like a Rooster she would match up to the coop and before she let them out for the dya she would grab that poor creature and chop of the head. We would have roast chicken for dinner. A real treat back then.

Yes I have had hens develop into something more like a cockerel. One wonders if it is natures way of saving the species.
