Why did you save all your  coupons instead of getting your share each week? I was fortunate being born after the war ended.

You ate them of course and being you, shared them with the family.Mother may have crushed some of them up as they were probably mostly sugar and that would have helped with her sugar rations. She probably made a cake. I was born in '45 just before the European war ended.

Mama never let us have many sweets, so I don't remember if they were

rationed here. I do remember she stockpiled sugar so she'd have enough to make jelly and can peaches in season. She complained about how fast we grew out of or wore out our shoes because leather was also rationed - I guess they needed it for army boots and gear.  It's amazing what a person remembers from childhood.

During difficult times, we especially want to give children as much of a normal time as we can. Sweets can do that.

Good Morning

During wartime, things are difficult for everyone, and children are included.  I wish there were a way to shelter children from the war.   I feel so sorry for everyone from Ukraine because they have suffered the loss of homes and a way of life that is no longer there.  I don't see how they could ever get things back to the way they were.  This post about candy makes me think of the way things are in places that have been affected by war.
