Comments on Anne Frank's Twin? ...Or Doppelganger?

Anne was and still is such a beautiful lady.  I have always felt so close to her.  I first read her diary when I was thirteen years old.  The same age as Anne when she began writing her diary.

For many years, I believed we were a quarter German on my Dad's Mum's side of the family.  She once told me someone in her family was married to a Jewish person.

The summer before Mum passed away, my youngest sister learned we are not German after all, but Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian.  So, there is still the possibility we are Jewish somewhere along the way.  But that part of our ancestry is unknown to me.

I sincerely hope we are Jewish.  I have always loved so many of their customs and religious beliefs.  I was raised as a Christian, but I would be very comfortable attending both temple and church.

I don't practise Judaism, but I do sometimes honour their holidays in my own small way.

Good morning

They say that we all have more than one doppelganger running around and Anne Frank appears to be one of hers. Your ethnic background is quite interesting. Maybe she should get the ancestry.com DNA kit. They are on sale this year for $59.00. We got one for each of our daughters. I did mine a few years ago. They are really fun, especiually if you are into genealogy. AncestryDNA® | DNA Tests for Ethnicity & Genealogy DNA Test

if she wishes to grow up and become Jewish I imagine she will be able to join. surely these things should be our own choices.

Re: FormerStudentIntern

"Someday we shall know as we are known" without even a DNA test I imagine.

A fascinting family history you have there TAPS. It'd be interesting if you ever did one of those DNA tests.

Re: CCT

It had to be because the war was almost over.  But even at that the family of my one-time brother-in-law were highly traumatized and he who was born there grew up with a lot of problems and fears which led to their divorce.

One never knows. I'm not sure how she could trace other than through DNA. 23 and me has millions registered and I know I get notifications of relatives I have never met who could be as far as 7th cousin.

Re: Re: Sea_Gypsy

There ARE Jewish Italians, meaning both the religion and the nationality or either. There are also Italians of partial or full "Jewish" (from the Levant) descent who are other religions, especially Catholic. That's a result, in part, of the Inquisition. Some "chose" to convert and each was known as a Converso.

Conversions of people of the Jewish faith happened in Poland, Germany, Spain, England, Portugal, Czechoslovakia, Romania and other countries as well. It was so long ago that in many cases there is not enough DNA on the testing points to show up. My full sis shows a small percentage. So you could in theory be part "Jewish."

Re: Sea_Gypsy

I wondered about that.  Why wouldn't there be Jewish Italians?  I often wondered if my husband's German Grandfather might have a Jewish background.

What a great post! Probably a third of my Italian relatives look like Anne Frank. Many from our area DNA test as having Jewish/Israeli or actually The Levant ethnicities, my sis included for a tiny bit. So maybe her Italian mom has some Jewish line.. after all, during the Inquisition the Italian states welcomed Jews - often if they would convert, through there are Jewish Quarters in Old Rome and Old Cosenza.
