Memory in fact can be more vivid as one ages. The swans immortal as the poet in youth recalls things as they once were and remain.

At my place and the lake across the road, it is not swans but Canada geese. They are always there, always flying over my place honking as they go from one small lake to another in the area. Even when the lake turns to solid ice they are there standing on the lake sometimes on one leg. I am older, much older, but the Canada geese remain the same.
