Oh my - just one spanking? I got quite a few of those as I was growing up, most of them well-deserved, no doubt. I had a tendancy to push the envelope. It didn't do me any good to hide away; the consequence was that it would last longer. Now you have me wondering if it played any part in my behaviour as an adult.

And, I totally agree with you. Later in life my Dad was reading a modern book about that and he said to me, "Why didn't they have books like this when I was raising my kids?"

Spanking, to me, might be a way of getting a kid's attention focused on a problem. But I am convinced that there are better ways.

Good morning
Great post. Spanking has been a huge source of controversy for decades. I can see how overkill during a spanking could lead to serious mental issues, but a few swats to the behind can set an unruly child straight. John and I really weren't into that sort of punishment, but I had my share of spankings from a few different step-dads that left a mark. Looking back on it now, maybe that is why I hated them so much. They used their hands rather than talking it out to get to the source of the issue.

We parents all have to forgive ourselves for sometime not acting the best for a beloved child. Spanking used to be quite usual back in the day. Funny you mention dad's eyes changing like that. I never knew for years that I couldn't hide my real and i believe justifiable anger. Wiley took me to a mirror and should me how my eyes flash when I am angry. go a deeper Blue and flash darts . No not at him but if something made me very angry.
