Re: Re: Good morning

I forgot to add something. I ALWAYS carried a .357 pistol for safety purposes. I haven't killed an animal for food in decades due to the shotgun injury to the abdomen I sustained as a medic. I lost a lot of small intestines, and a lot of foods no longer taste good to me. If I'm not going to eat it, why kill it? I carry the weapon for my safety. The UP was crawling with bears, moose, and wolves, and I routinely would run into them, but again, I believe they knew me and knew I was not a threat to them... BUT... what take a chance? I wouldn't kill an animal unless I genuinely feared for my life.

Michigan and Wisconsin have worked together to rebuild the animal population and the clarity of the Great Lakes in a way few states ever work together. I suspect most of you are old enough to remember when they declared Lake Erie to be "dead." It is now quite clean and full of fish.

Re: Good morning

A moose is a very unpredictable animal. I have had them come within twenty feet of me, sniff, and walk away, but every two or three years, some nitwit will try to "get a picture of themselves" with a wild moose. The only picture they get is their body stomped into a bloody pulp. Most adult moose will weigh about 1500 to 2500 pounds... the size of a small car. Now add the fury of a small car, and you get the idea!

I've been close to a lot of moose, but most of them have seen me and my dogs in the forest many times. I've never been dumb enough to make a threatening move on one, and I suspect they "respect" me... but I am always extremely careful when they approach me. They are intensely curious creatures, and once they realize you are not a threat to them, they want to figure you out.

Maine is a beautiful state. I spent a week there in 1975. I hope you enjoy the trip!

Good morning

He's a really big boy. We are headed to Maine next month. I've heard that I will have to watch out for these guys.
