It was a technology break for you! Glad your electricity is back on. Did you ever find out what caused it?

Good morning

I fought and resisted getting a cell phone no matter how much my kids, and parents pushed us to move into unfamiliar territory. Technology just isn't my thing. Then, last year my dad sent me a new iPhone. I stared at the foreign object for half a day before I got down to the business of plugging it in, charging it, and then navigating my way around it. I still do not use it much, but it worked great as a GPS while we were traveling to D.C. this past week, and I can see my family when they facetime me. I can also send messages versus talking on the phone, which I am not a fan of doing on most days.

I hate my cell phone with a passion BUT it does always make a call no matter what.

Good Afternoon from Cleveland

I'm so sorry you had to go through this.  We have a landline but it goes through the internet and when the Wifi is down and the electricity is off our phone goes out.  One time we lost electricity for three days and that was terrible.  We had no lights, no computer, no television, and everything was out.  We had to throw everything away in the freezer and to top it all off it was hot.  We did have water though so that was a good thing. Our hot water tank is gas so we had hot water too.  At night we did use candles and we always have flashlights placed around the house in case we need them.  I keep two in the bathroom just in case.  My stove is electric and of course, we couldn't run the dishwasher so we tried to use paper plates and cups.  For three days Roy went to the store to get ice.  We had no choice.  I think the hardest part for us was not being able to use the coffee maker.  We do like our coffee.  This happened in August of 2003 and it has not happened since then.  I think they called it the great power outage.

It used to be that landlines wouldn't go out because of copper wires, but copper became cost prohibitive. I wish there could be a way to bring that wiring back for landlines because it could create a major crisis because even cellphone lines can get jammed.

I do like the idea of you having a Smartphone. You'll be able to master it, I feel.

Like you, I depend on the landline, and when power goes off,

I'm alone on the planet...  That was a long day, but you're resourceful.

Yes Taps you just need something that does not rely on the electricity permanently.

A bit much to be without power for so long.  One can also get gadgets to press for

emergencies, I am sure your nearest son would suss it out for you.

I am sure you will get some good advice from our Blogit friends as they obviously

are more aware of the possibilities in your country. Please do not let it happen again.
