Re:

Annicita, it is so easy.  I used my food processor and it turned out perfect.  I'm going to make some more this morning.  All you do is push the button but it takes about six minutes depending on how much butter you are making.

Re:

C_C_T, I think I want to make bread but I have to get the ingredients I need.

I'm not sure how you are making the butter. Did you find a churn? I helped my aunt make butter. I thought my arm was going to fall off from all that churning! But then again, I was just a kid.

We used to make a white cheese when the milk turned because it was of course not

chilled and it did seem to have more cream on top in those days. I expect. My

Mother often made bread, but I have no idea how it was made.

adnohr, I would love to have the recipe.  Thank you so much!

We churned our own butter on the farm where i grew up too. I use my bread machine every other day. I find the best results are using the dough setting. After the dough mixes and rises the first time, I remove it from the machine, knead it,  and let it rise again covered with humid towel, then bake it in oven. I have a real easy recipe for French Bread that I make every second day (my kids love it!) if you want it? Great for cinnamon buns and pizza dough too.

Re: I remember churning butter when I was 12 years old and lived on

Pat, we used to eat like that on my grandparent's farm.  It's so good.  The cottage cheese was so good.  I will never forget it.  It tasted nothing like what is in the stores now.

Re: Good afternoon

Sassy, thanks for the good wishes with making my butter.  I'm always nervous when I try something new.  Stay warm today.  They are saying it feels like 1 degree outside today.  That is just not acceptable.  I think my next project will be making bread.  I hope it turns out but I have to get the ingredients before I can give it a try.  It used to be that you could find bread-making kits in the grocery store but It's not that easy now.

Re:

FSI, I think you are right.  There may come a time when the shelves are empty and we will have to rely on our own skills until we are able to restock our pantries.

I remember churning butter when I was 12 years old and lived on

the farm. We had whole milk, fresh from the cows - "Aunt" Ethel's home made biscuits or pancakes, bacon or ham (also from their farm), a bowl of oatmeal, fried apples or blackberry jam - for breakfast every day. Never ate so well before that time or since.

Good afternoon

My mom has a bread machine. My brother and I played with it a few years ago and actually made bread that was not only visually appealing, but it was also delicious. It is cold here today too. The wind has been whipping the snow around. We are headed for better temps this week that has a promise of sunny days. Good luck making your butter. It will be the perfect addition to a warm loaf of bread.

The idea of a bread machine sounds intriguing, especially when snow causes bread, milk and toilet paper to fly off the shelves.
