Re: Annicita, I don't remember my mom using them as a backup either.
I grew up on home-cooked meals. The only variant that I remember is that we went to a diner every Saturday night after visiting friends just across the California border from the Oregon state line. My step-dad and my mom had a steak dinner and I had a burger.
