You probably was a much better student with much better grades than Fred. Actually he sounds sort of a jerk and the late for school thing is no joke.

Good afternoon
Worn out shoes have that same effect. You grow tired of them and need something new. Punctuality is a biggy for me. I get really irritated when someone makes me late. It sounds as though you simply outgrew this friend. Maturity has a way of doing that when the friend lags behind with growing up.

Good Morning
It doesn't sound like Fred was the best guy to have as a friend. Thank goodness your Dad was there to drive you both to school. I think you would probably have been late on most days if Fred's Dad was the designated driver.
