Great, great post, Bill. I personally try to not end sentences with a prep, as it irritates me, but - having said that there are times when must do so. And yes, many best-selling writers break the rules, big time. I do think these who do so are aware of basic grammar but choose to defy tradition. That’s different than a writer who is ignorant of basic English grammar. I think if a writer is skilled and the storyline is outstanding and grips the reader, one can throw out the rules and write away - even if he/she writes run-on sentences as you are reading, hopefully, now, right here! lol Also, consistency in tenses is important to me as a reader.

This is valuable information to learn and store for later. As for loving the story of the story, I especially do when it is a true one that has been retold.
