If it isn’t being used and is not going to impact current residents it’s fine. A number of options should be used which may be outside the box, pardon the pu.

I live near the RR tracks. For whatever reason people love it.
It really boils down to whether you like the railroad or not. We love it. It is the bread and butter to our local steel mills, coal mines, and ironworks.

Well Bill our railway land ceased to function and it is built on. We now have to crawl at times on the main road.
