Re:

C_C_T, sometimes I wonder which can to put an item in but now we have so many rules to follow that when I'm in doubt I just toss it.  In our driveway, there's nothing at the end of the drive to wedge our recycling can against.  It just goes right over if there is a wind.

We put out recycling into a tall black bin. I usually wedge mine against the gate post if it is a rough wind. The waste goes into another similar bin. Sometimes I do fret over which bin to place an article in. I know some do not bother and just throw it into anyone.

Re:

FSI, it's true glass would be heavier than plastic and give the can more stability but plastic is so light that the can blows right over in the wind.

One benefit to being able to recycle glass where I'm at is that it can serve a purpose of holding the can down. Hopefully, the recycling truck then does not come too early.

Re: I hope your gnomes have rain gear if they plan to be outdoors today.

Pat, on rainy days the gnomes usually stay inside.  I think Mighty McV has asthma and the minute he gets a little cold or wet he starts coughing.  I try to keep him warm and dry.

Re:

Annicita, I thought about keeping it but each we have so much that it would start piling up.  We are not allowed to use bags with our recycling and that's another problem because everything is loose in the can and as soon as the wind knocks over the can all the recycling blows everywhere.

I just save my recyclables for another week. I don't know if that is possible for you or not. Maybe weigh it down or wedge between other containers. We had a large trash bin for ours in St. Louis and small ones here in Boca.
