Re: CCT - cooking squirrels...

I have a son, a bowhunter and occasional trapper, who finds squirrels tasty. I always thought they were a bit too closely related to rats to be appetizing.

I expect I have told you I once went into a large house and the cook was skinning squirrels. Of course, they were grey ones as we rarely see a red one.

I imagined them to be red squirrels I suppose it is because most of ours are.

They build tunnels in the snow here and find the seeds I have left out for them. When the Blue Jays and finch and all the other birds come for food the Queen sqirrel will pop her head up from a tunnel and the birds flee.

Pat, one day I saw a black squirrel in a suburb not too far from here.  Our squirrels are all brown and they do get into mischief.  They run up and down the trees all the time. Sometimes it seems like they are chasing each other.  I love writing about animals.  I write about dragons, dogs, kitties, squirrels, fish, birds and the list goes on and on.  My animals work to solve crimes and get the bad guys off the street.  They are very good at what they do.  I love all your ideas.

Re: TAPS

These are gray squirrels, I think. They seem brown/gray mixed, but def. are not red. They have gray tails, big & fluffy, but there was one whose tail was skinny - perhaps it was a youngster and hadn't fluffed out yet. There really is one that has white ears, and one that scratches himself every time I see him on the back porch rail.

On that place I did not faithfully follow this story, but I always wondered whether they were red squirrels or gray squirrels.  When we lived south of the MO River when the boys were growing up, all the squirrels were red ones.  But, after all my sons were grown and gone from home I moved north ot the mighty MO and was surprised to find that the squirrels there were gray ones.   I guess the river kept them separated?

Re: Thanks. I copied one pic - he looks like a twin to those in my area.

You are such a creative and experienced writer that I have no doubt that you will come up with something. I love squirrels and all of their silliness. They keep me entertained while frolicking around our yard in search of nuts and seeds. I post them on my FB page regularly along with my raccoons, birds, deer, and whatever else that jumps the fence. I too have a separate FB account with posts on the paranormal. It draws in a few fans here and there. Maybe my FB squirrels can give you some inspiration. (20+) Sherri N John Granato | Facebook
