Re:

FSI, I'm sorry to hear that Baltimore discontinued its recycling program too!

Re: Re: Re: I am a freeze bay too.

Sassy, I wish it would warm up!  Reuben sandwiches sound good!

Baltimore stopped its recycling program, too, a while back. People can still take to recycling areas, but it's fallen off big time. I hope it returns soon.

Re: Re: I am a freeze bay too.

It is colder here this morning than it has been in a while. I plan to stay indoors most of the day. I do have to grab some items to make our Reuben sandwiches this afternoon.

Re:

Kabu, I hope the cities can come up with a plan.  I'm not sure what it would be but hopefully, something good will come out of all this.

That is sad but yes I believe the countries we have been sending it to are overwhelmed and say no. We need to get real with recycling.

Re:

C_C_T, I do hope they find a way to keep the recycling program going.  They are saying it's not cost-effective to send two trucks from house to house.  One for rubbish and one for recycling. It seems like now there's not enough money for the important things.

Re: Goldiec

BC-A, I hope the cream you are using helps your fingers.  The cold weather is so hard on the skin.  I hope you have a good night.

Re: That is such a shame that the garbage companies would do that.

Sassy, I've always felt recycling was vital to our future which makes me wonder why the powers that be are giving up on it.

Re: I am freezing too!

Sassy, it is just too cold for me!  I spent part of the afternoon sitting by the fire.  I had my throw blanket on me and the furnace was on.  I'm a freeze baby.  I was drinking my water with lime in it and I think maybe I should have made myself a cup of tea.

Re: I was a kid before plastic containers came on the scene.

Pat, I love Mason jars and use them all the time.  They are very sturdy with really good lids on the jars.  I think you may be right and we should rethink using glass.

Re:

Ciel, I have heard that other countries said that our recyclable items were too dirty.  Our city was always sending out letters about cleaning our cans and bottles.  I love the whole concept of recycling but right now it's not going well at all. It really is discouraging.

Well we have to recycle Goldiec it takes up to much space to keep burying everything and most of our non recyclable waste is incinerated and provides Electricity .

Goldiec

The cans follow New Years Eve noisemakers. My fingers are sore from the cold. I'm using a cream. Good morning.

That is such a shame that the garbage companies would do that.

Recycling is vital to our future life on this planet.

I am freezing too!

We went to look at a house this morning. It is way too cold for this. I need heat, fire, blankets, and something warm to sip on.

I was a kid before plastic containers came on the scene.

In those days - at least in the Pacific Northwest - nothing was thrown away that could be re-used. If you recycle a tin can you don't have to mine and refine the metal. Many foods came in glass jars - like Mason jars that could be reused. Many required a deposit, so that when you turned them in, you'd get a few pennies back. I'm tempted to think we should quit using plastic and go back to re-usable glass.

One reason our recycled stuff is being sent back by other countries is that it is so dirty. Not everyone cleans out the cans and bottles, I guess. And even here, I think the basic infrastructure to handle it is not working. It is discouraging!
