Uncle Norm was well worth the wait for Aunt Doris...Things have changed a lot over the years when it comes to the timing of marriage. People are able to wait longer for it.

Doris was a smart woman.
Whatever she said to Mr. Wrong worked and opened her up to a happy life with Mr. Right. Good for her. No lifelong commitment is worth it when spent in sadness.

My father stayed single long to take care of his mother, until he met mine.

Your grandfather was very wise. I'm happy your auntie found the right man. This is a great post and I really enjoyed reading it. Thank you.

Being an old maid may be a deplorable condition, but it's a lot better
than being unhappily married. So happy she listened to her father's great advice.

Kabu, I loved this story! I always say if it's meant to be it will be! Thank goodness your Father stepped in as Fathers do because he wanted his daughter to be happy. Thank you so much for sharing this memory.
