Perhaps an AAA map folded on the empty passenger seat, or being

held by the passenger who acts as co-pilot for the driver. I still have the AAA map from the 90s that I used to navigate my way from Illinois to Oregon. No cell phones then, no GPS. Just the freedom of the open road.

I know!  A small window next to the big one.  I'm not sure what they were called but they did open.

I think a GPS that's connected to the dashboard.  I wish we had one.  My friend had one in her car and I thought it was awesome. These did not come in old cars.
