Pirates
Wow! I can't imagine what could have happened that everyone would abandon the ship. No matter what was going on I would feel safer on the ship than a lifeboat. The only thing that comes even close to plausible would be pirates but if it were pirates they would have cleaned out the ship and taken what they wanted or taken the ship. This is definitely a mystery!
