It would depend on the borrowed item.
You can only ask so many times for something to be returned or repaid before you write it off as a loss. As for stolen property, turn it into the police and hope for the best.

Well I once had a cement mixer and everyone who borrowed it forgot to bring it back.
So the last time I fetched it I gave it away.

I haven’t had much luck getting things back that have been tAken or stolen. I wish I could figure out ways to do so.
