I don't think it's a good idea and I can see where it leads to trouble. I think unless someone gives information freely it's best to walk away.  Taking the higher ground is for the best!

This sounds like something out of a mystery or action movie.

I guess the right information may have no dollar amount, and how badly do you need that information?

That instance is different than what I was thinking. No, as a civilian I would not tip a police officer or other civil servant. They aren't allowed to accept gifts or tips, I believe.
