Well I like a carpet it is wearing so well it was an Axminster, but I think most carpets a made to last a couple or so years.

Cararra marble. Nice. In your story, I don't have that...
The one thing that pleases me is a solar shade for the window that is a garden window over the sink. The shade is remote because it is unreachable due to the sink and counter being in the way, and the sun blasts through that window where the sink is located all of the entire afternoon, making one's face get burned. I have had so many pre-cancers on my face that it is reallly helpful when cooking.
