Re: Re: Marine1 - Dan

Our dads were about the ages. We lost my dad about the same time. I’d say we were both exceptionally lucky to have had the dads  (and in my case and probably yours too - mom’s) that we did.

You served during a particularly difficult time and if you didn’t receive a big welcome when you returned, we welcome you and appreciate your service now. I wore a POW bracelet for years in memory of our military personnel who didn’t come home. Just because... People did care.

Much gratitude to both you and your father for your service. My grandfather served in the navy during WWII. He died when I was about 3 years old.

Thanks,  My dad died in1998 at the age of 85. I served in the Marines 1961-1967. Lots of memories.  Again, thanks.  Dan

Marine1

First of all, thank you for your service to our country. You must have seen some battles yourself. And what a wonderful tribute this poem is to a great man. We thank your father and all of the Allied personnel for fighting a battle and a war that needed to be won.

If the USA troops and Canadian and all the other Commonwealth countries had not helped UK it would have been curtains for us. Your Dad was a hero.

Wow!  While I was reading this I could feel my heart beating at a fast pace.  I was afraid the bombs wouldn't go off and something would go wrong and the Germans would get across the bridge to the other side.  Thankfully everything turned out okay.  I'm sorry your father was wounded but grateful that he made it home to his family.
