Our society has some basically terribly dysfunctional parenting practices, and though they are improving greatly, still many, many children will be dealing with this for their whole lives. It is so prevalent, even endemic, that many of us don't ever realize there is something abnormal and unnecessary affecting our sense of self, and our relationships.

It is such a complex condition.
For too many people, it is lifelong despite medication, therapy, and attempts to overcome. I believe that I used to suffer from past abuse, but I was able to get to a better place with support from friends and family.
