I think every kid knows they are special, whether it has ever been acknowledged by parents, teachers, or anyone else. The ones who have been emotionally neglected and abused may also believe they are nothing... both beliefs will contend in them for their lifetime. It's the realization that everyone is special, everyone has been hurt or even damaged, that can transcend the self-sorrow and anger that goes with it.
You, of course, are special in so many ways!

A wonderful post my friend. Very well said. I didn't even realize that I thought of myself as special, not until life knocked some sense into me. I am glad for my life. I am glad that everyone is special; we all have something to give to society if we just learn to give.
