Being unpopular in society is a big deal when you are seeking approval from peers. Kids fall into this trap as to where adults don't care as much. Looking and acting the part are everything in high school. It is a defining time in life. It is sad that kids can't allow people to be themselves. I suspect that many drug and alcohol issues as well as suicides are the result of peer rejection. It is sad.

Yes even children will pick on one who is slightly different . I always remember one boy telling me that he just beaten up a kid. He was not happy about it as he said he had suffered being bullied by him for years.

There was always punks around...our high school was divided into 3 levels.
Those going to college (we ran the student body).
Farmers (FFA)
And Business those going to find an office job (at that time it was primarily girls)
