Poltergeists can do pretty much what they want. We have been to places where there are a mix of entities. There are also intelligent hauntings, not to be confused with poltergeists.

I had a bus group go by there on the way to Yellowstone NP. We didn't stop because we had too many people. I just saw where it is now permanently closed!
