We once stopped at a diner in Nevada that offered a burger named, "the terminator." It was as big as the plate, and it was served with a steak knife so that you could slice it up into a more reasonable meal. It was a ten pound piece of meat, embellished with cheese, fresh veggies, and surrounded by a pound of sesame seed buns. If one managed to consume the monster, it was free. There was a wall that posted the winners. There were two. My hubby was not one of them. It takes a special kind of human to consume that much food in one setting.

My high school did a donut eating competition that was somehow used to try to promote school spirit. The gluttony aspect did not make sense to me.
