I suppose it is nice for birds to have a drink in summer. One can get little bales of barley straw, it clears the water, but I honestly don't know if that means it is drinkable . I always put fresh water out to save the Mother bird flying long distances to obtain a drink in the summer. Funny though doves her are more nervous than Wood Pigeons . Once one could not get the sight of one , Of course they were shot for food once.

How beautiful your yard must be! Yes, it may be cheaper to repair the water line also. And the birds are so sweet to watch.
