Years ago I found a remedy for going upstairs and forgetting what I went up there for.  When I realized it had left me, I yelled "WHAT?" as loudly as I could and that would shock my brain into remembering.  It still works a goodly portion of the time, but if anyone else is there, it frightens them badly.

Re:

The issue today was more one of being distracted... I went up to get my diary to check if we were free next Friday, while I was taking a cup of coffee up to our friendly handyman working in the bathroom. My partner wanted me to ask him something while I was up there, so I did - and forgot the diary on my way down, hence the second trip upstairs....

Re:

Only one problem with that Corbin... I would forget to take it out of one pocket and into another outfit!

Put a pad of post-it notes in your pocket, every time you decide on a task write it down.  When you get to the top of the stairs, refresh your memory....
