There's a debate going in my town about a historic structure - the

original wall (from the early 1800s) of the first store built on Main Street. Debate over whether or how to preserve it has delayed the reconstruction and building of a restaurant on that site for more than two years. Your dad's strategy was brilliant!
On a side issue, re: Corbin's comment - I miss Joe Love and remember him fondly.

The house next door to where I live now was where Joe Love and I lived, I got it from my Dad when he passed.  It was a house built by a former slave at the turn of the century (1900).....I discovered it was being devoured by termites.

After Joe died I bought the house next do and remodeled it.....I am in the same process of having a Volunteer Fire Dept. to come out and practice on it.

And yes the tax break is wonderful.....
