My belief is that we are that way with fearing God because we cannot fully comprehend him.

I used to have some fear of God, partly because of the urgings for such in the Old Testament. But my concept of God has changed, and I no longer fear God. I simply love him/her/it, and try to receive God's love (and grace and forgiveness) and transmit it to others.
