Re:

I'm not sure....but I would keep his info just in case he does try to steal your ID

Be suspicious and never confirm info... even if not trying to get cash, he could be planning to steal your identity.  Connecting names, maiden names, birth dates, phone numbers... and then add hometowns and other misc info... it's a recipe to unlock everything.

The guy does sound very fishy. My guess is that something like him would not turn up as a scan. The scammers on the big scale like to be very quick (i.e. give your bank account to Nigerian prince). They send a generic email and have the infrastructure in place for people to supply the information that will unfortunately make them fall victim to a scam.

This guy sounds like a lone wolf operation. I cannot see a big scamming organization going through having someone communicating with each and every person.

This week, I received three different calls from a collection agency looking for my previous DIL in Florida.  She died over ten years ago apparently leaving $30,000 in debt.  I listened to the recorder and then erased it, and told Son #1 not to answer those calls.  She was the first wife of Son #2.  I don't know if she owed the $$$ or not, but it has nothing to do with me.

weird. but it could be a Scam. there must be millions of people who would love to hear from a child that they had to adopt out.

Lanetay

A lot of info like that is available through public trees on Ancestry.com and other websites like it. Wonder if that's where he got the info? You are correct to be suspicious, I think.
