Re: Nautikos

Thank you. So true. Music will do that, take you back. Your comments caused me consider a line in the lyrics of the song, Forever Young: '...May you stay forever young...' Though written with his son in mind, every time I heard it, I thought perhaps it could also be interpreted as wishing one would not become cynical in the course of a lifetime. The optimism of those times was a unique gift. A gift of youth, perhaps. We reflect upon them with some melancholy, and try to contain, retain, maintain, and regain a scintilla of that optimisn. I think of another quote from another song: '...wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.' The world is different now.

Re: C_C_T

Good observation, CC. Yes, there was even disagreement on this honor by some. Oh well...

Re: shobana

Thank you for your comment, shobana. I think these talented ones do go through much, but I also think they observe much, in a deeper vein than many.

Re: Riversidepoet

That's a deep line...(excuse the pun). Yes, those tunes bounce around one's mind, as do the lyrics. Enjoy them.

Bob Dylan congratulations. major poet who I have admired since the 1960's About time the World realizes at last that song lyrics are literature and not just something Blowin' in the wind.

That was a nice and loving tribute to Bob Dylan.

Yes he really deserved  the honour and it is nice that so many agree. That is not always the case as you know.

RP

All this takes me back to another time, another era...There was so much more optimism reflected in his songs, and that of some others as well...But it does seem rather quaint now, and somewhat melancholy...

I always accused Bob of causing me to write these crazy lines once,"Threaded webs woven by a stranger must flow thru arteries where spoiled blood knew nothing" , you know and unto this day I love any song that has a harmonica in it, man you got all those old tunes going thru my head.

Re: Riversidepoet

Yes, his use of lyric and poetical song style was, and is still, on point. He paved the way for many, and his sense of humor was lost on many more, I would think. There are countlesss songs I could list, phrases I have enjoyed. Thank you for your comments, and many probably throught they were Bob Dylans, and that's good for the world.

Re: UKUSA

Thank you, and I appreciate your Italian words. I am sure different posts convey different feelings to different persons. In the earlier part of his career, Bob Dylan, was, among other things, a human rights, civil rights, and anti-war singer, and through his poetical song style was able to convey feelings also felt by many young folk of that time. He, in my opinion, transcended the music culture, while being a part of it, writing lyrics strong in poetic value, both deep and humorous. He continued to grow and expand his style as time went on, IMHO.

He was always my favorite back in the day, I told my children that I thought I was Bob Dylan until I was 40, sometimes with Dylan it wasn't just what he said but how he said it,  one of my favorites lyrics that I never forgot was, "grandpa died last week, they buried him in the rocks, everybody still talks about how badly they were shocked, but me I expected it to happen, I knew he'd lost control, when he built a fire on main street and shot it full of holes" Oh mama can this really be the end, to be stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues again."

Yes I would say he is a poet
