It is a reference to the age of the light of the stars that we see.  I am saying I see the light from the stars, though that light was formed long ago.

If it is necessary. Because I can live with poems that ruminate ... and yield their meanings over time. It is beautiful. So, we may have frozen hearts abounding ... that may be tinselled into new life by sapphire hues, etc (?) Thanks for making me want to share my favorite hymn and its back story to 1865. Yes, 1865.
