We received a brief earthquake five years ago. Shortly afterwards, we ended up with Hurrican Irene. That was a time of interesting natural events.

TAPS

I had to do a little digging (pun fully intended, LOL) to find out you've got all those fault lines there! We're lucky - we're sitting practically on the Canadian Shield (once upon a time mountains 30,000 ft high), and that doesn't move much...

I hope the fracking stops. Earthquakes are awful. No need to encourage Mother Nature  to bolt!

Unbelievable...

They know the damage they are doing, and they keep right on doing it.

Is this earthquake the direct result of fracking...terrible word.... and if so why don't they just stop! Australia has been fracking for years, natural gas, but Australia has a great underground inland sea of brackish water and with the fracking, because thery use this water, son tells me it is rising and will ruin all the agriculture. I am just about sick of the World.

We had quite a few earthquakes when I lived in western Washington,

and we were always conscious that "the big one" could take out half of the Pacific Coast cities and shoreline. Thought when I came to the Midwest this was far from any fault line and then I studied about the New Madrid fault and how a long ago quake changed the course of the Mississippi River... I hope nobody was hurt in this one.

Of course I had to read your history finish and was surprised to find how many commented on the blog. I just thought in those early days we would never buy anything from Woolworths the cut price store Dad said they were ruining small businesses .

I don't think anyone realizes how poor folk really were, my Uncle came in from a village to try to claim unemployment benefit. 'How did you get here?' the old misery asked. '

'On my old motorcycle,' was the reply.'Well sell that before you try to claim.' was the answer. Today a man told my sister,' If you are on disabled benefits, you can get anything you want.'
