Both of my grandfather's passed away before I was born, paternal in 1979 and maternal in 1980. I did meet my great-grandfather, my maternal grandmother's father. He is the only person I recall having met who was born in the 1800s (1894).

It is sad really so many people have no idea how they came into being not even the slightest history of the forebears. One of mine fought in the Battle of Waterloo and later was made Warden of the Local forest. Of course if he had been a deserter we would not have remembered him.
