Yes, I feel that it is good for parents to pay for chores with an allowance. I do feel that can foster a work ethic.

I think kids should have some basic allowance which they can improve by doing some chores. But it's also good for them to realize that keeping a household requires everyone to put some time and energy into it without expectation of payment.

my kids had to do chores to earn their pocket money. Guess what. In the mid to late forties they still are. It helped to teach them work ethic, having poor parents.
