I didn't get turned on to classical music until I was out of high school
and boarded for almost a year with an Austrian family that had barely escaped Hitler by the skin of their teeth - they had a great collection of classical recordings and the music filled the house when I got home from work at the phone company. I babysat their 4-year-old in exchange for room & board, it was nice while it lasted. Die Fledermaus, if I remember correctly, was one Mr. and Mrs. Eisler used to talk about, the composer, the play, etc...

It is hard to believe that a mere man could write such a composition and that anyone could play it so wonderfully.
