What a lovely happy story to read for this old man.

A bit more cuddly than fish. Now you will want more, I hope you chose wisely.

They were always a hit in the classroom.

I think they're cute, and very entertaining but I never wanted to own one.

We kept chickens when I was a kid, and I enjoyed working with the cows and horses when I lived on the farm, so I've developed a sense that critters are better off outside.

Sounds like fun, and you clearly don't have a cat, LOL...I have never had a gerbil or a hamster, but once I did have a white mouse...

I got to go through the gerbils and hamsters when my sons were young.  My favorite was Mrs. Brown, a loveable hamster who could pack her cheeks like you wouldn't believe.  We had so much fun with her....until one morning about three years later we found her passed away in her cage.  Daniel cried.  She had been his.  I showed him how to have a funeral and burial for her in our back yard.  I explained to him that she had a full life and that she had loved being with him.  Years later, he went through that again with Chipper his doggie--golden retriever/collie.  They were good lessons for him about life span of various living things.

Enjoy your new house mates...or extension of your family. They seem to be settled in happily and are giving you lots of fun.
