I have always hated escalators, elevators or as CCT said lass floors. I liked the elevators better when we had drivers for them. Poor Mom.

First I ever heard of a Paternoster except in church.

TAPS

I have encountered paternosters in Europe and found them very useful - much better than waiting forever for an elevator that stops everywhere...I never thought of them as dangerous, but I agree that they might be for some...And yes, tiny tots can be a problem on escalators...

Goodness no wonder you have that image in your mind Taps. Surprising the people who don't like things that move upward mechanically. I would not fancy walking on a glass see through floor, unless I kept my eyes shut.

I have never heard of a paternoster (sp?)

But I don't care much for our people movers either..:) That said, they do have a purpose; I cross my fingers every time I enter an elevator - too many movies probably..:)

I had to look up paternoster. I can see why it would have so many problems...I remember how much I loved riding the escalator at the mall when I was a kid. Lots of fun.

The "joys" of travel. I suppose it's better now than by wagon train through hostile territory. Or not.
