Yes one must observe the not so friendly critters with caution. I can feel that little blighter scratching ones arm in a twink. Stick to the little ones, as I am sure you do now.

When I lived down by the river with my girls, we would feed a family of them that took up under the deck. One night I was sitting in the swing there and the family came up to visit. It got spooky when  I couldn't make them back away. I waggled my feet at them and them drew them up tight! I jumped over the arm and got a broom. Nasty things when we have something in mind and you tell them no. The next night I was woke by the sound of little finger nails prying at the screen to my open bedroom window above my bed. Two of those critters were tying to break into my house! They would have fallen right on top of me if they had gotten the screen off. The next night my daughter opened her car door and got inside. Nice I hear a screem and swearing. She was only 16 so that was a bit of a surprise, anyway, Those critters where in her back seat and expected her to drive them into town~  No more feeding the cute little furry creatures.

All true,

The End.

I read once about one who got in through a patio screen when the door had been left open at night.  It found a sleeping child with its foot hanging off the bed and chewed off a couple of its toes.  But they are pretty little things.

buuuut , packrats are another story. we recently had to demolish a wall in the laundry room to find out why the washer wasn't draining properly. Simple solution..about 40 lbs of dog food and horse cake(little sweet protien cubes for horses) packed into the wall literally pushing the drain into.He was set for the winter. Fortunately, we were able to catch him after we removed the feed and the wall, then built a new wall and covered the pipes with steel wool. Mice or rats won't even try to chew threw that stuff.

Those raccoons are quick when a garbage bin is around.

One of my tenants has one for a pet. I was shocked when I saw him in the house.

It is said that

if we really want to get a colony started on Mars, all we have to do is land garbage first and raccoons will find a way to get there.

Did you feed it?? Reminds me of possums (as I'm sure it does you...).  Our cat made a meal of one once - all that was left was the tail...eeugh.
