I would think, even for a costly city like Seattle that for non-skilled work, that is a
pretty generous wage. And tips should be voluntary.

👟So, for myself, go to restaurants with cute young waitresses. LOL love.  BC-A, Bill’s R👀st
Personally, I have always considered tipping to be voluntary, not obligatory, and I have always tipped based on the quality of service. But it is a painful and annoying dilemma, with an anxiety on being called on being a "cheap tipper" always hovering. Oprah, in one of her less stellar moments, once set up a situation where "cheap tippers" were followed out of the restaurant and confronted by the offended server.Â

To tell you the truth, I had not thought about that part of the increased pay. I do not and never have minded giving a good tip (the going rate). I appreciate the work that a waiter/waitress does. Unless there is some really good reason to withhold the tip, I give it with a smile and a verbal thank you. If I am short on dough, I eat at home where I wait on myself.

Yes it would appear that folk might think ,hey I can save a few dollars now, these guys get there proper dibs, no one tips me when I finish work. Tradition dies hard though and i expect older people just tip as normal. I wouldn't bet on it though.Â

My first Job was as a waitress in an all night trucker stop. Australia didn't have tips although now it is happening just about everywhere. but if anyone thinks that working as a waiter is an easy job and well paid, just try it for a month.

I did not know that was going on in Seattle. I would probably still tip like I normally to because of the traditional aspect.

Are they still adjusting what they make by paying 6o% of the base pay of 15? Â I used to be a food server for several years. Â What difference does it make what their base pay is? Â If you go into an establishment where tipping is the norm you should tip unless your service has been crappy. Â And by crappy I mean things that the server has control over like their attitude, smile and courtesy.
How many of us walk into other businesses and question how much an employee makes? Â We don't because it's not our business. Â Just as what a server makes in base pay is not our business. Â If we don't want to pay we can go to the grocery store and buy what it takes to make the dish or get take out.
Now I will step off the soapbox...
