You're right. Having said that, and knowing a bit of other cultures as well, I will tell you that relatively speaking there has never been another society as 'open' to the advancement of the individual as the American 'melting pot' - with the exception of slaves, of course. And there are many parts of the world where slavery is still being practiced, in fact increasingly so...'Discrimination' of sometimes very severe forms (e.g. tha Caste System in India) appears to be a universal human phenomenon that is being overcome in the West more than anywhere else...And should I mention Islam?

Pat even when the soldiers came over from USA in the 1939-45 war there was a lot of

prejudice between the two groups. The girls did not seem to share the same view though.

You pretty much could be talking Australia here. Sigh!!! So many mistakes and so much bigotry and cruelty ....and it is only recently that Jewish people have been more accepted by society....but even some of that is surface smiles.

I do like your Vanilla Culture concept.
