Hello, Cat Woman! I too like the mysterious little purrers, but have you ever tried to take them for a walk in the woods or have them play catch? I didn't think so! Doggies help me to stay in shape!
And I'm sure you made up for the 'abuse' of your doggies by cuddling them whenever they wanted it...

If they were healthy and lived for about 15 years they must have been Ok for their short "doggie must do," outside times.

I have two pups padding about the house--mine, Bebe, is an Amstaff who hates the cold. She has a hoodie for trips, but I never walk her in the winter because she can't handle the cold. My daily visitor (I dog-sit during the week), Brinkley, a Springer Spaniel, could go outside in the snow and lay in it for hours.
It just depends on the dog, so don't beat yourself up too much.

Oh, don't beat yourself up over it! It wasn't as if you tossed them into a frozen lake or river and made them fend for themselves. A quick 'tinkle' and I'm sure they were right back in that warm house! By the way, my wife and I love doggies, but we're basically 'cat people' too . . .

Dogs?
I have dogs! The same brood Joe and I had by accident......A male Yorkie and a female Maltese.....developed into a pack of 6 when she had 4 pups at the ripe old age of 11 months....Joe wouldn't get her fixed and I had to do a trip for 10 days to Alaska.....I purchased a pair of pants she was supposed to wear when she went into heat......When riding back from the airport Joe slowly started telling me Bogart and Bianca may have "gotten" together........when I got home the pants were still in their wrapper........Oh well.....they all love the snow......

I don't think your dogs really minded being put outside in the cold I expect it was just boring. Some dogs are still tied to a chain all day. That is not nice at all.
